Using our Founder's expert knowledge of personal care, protection and health and safety hygiene, we have curated a specially designed package of essentials to meet the demands of health and social care in Ghana. Each Box contains a mixture of equipment used for organising, cleaning, feeding and operations. With our Boxes, we hope to empower professionals to deliver more effective care with greater ease, instil confidence in service users knowing that their treatment is being met with dignity, professionalism, comfort, empathy and the utmost highest quality.

Below are just some of the many items included in our KariCare Box:

  • Single-use gloves appropriate for childcare professionals when delivering intimate personal care. It is important that bodily fluids are not cross-contaminated or transferred to skin, ensuring dignity and preventing the risk of illness and infection for workers and children

  • Silicone bibs for children in care, predominantly living with physical and verbal impairments, it is essential that feeding times are as comfortable and mess-free as possible. The bibs are waterproof with integrated catchers to minimise soiling and hot food accidents. Their easy to clean nature and durability allows professionals more time to deliver better care and is in keeping with our sustainability values

  • Numbered patches for bedding and linens, adapted from an expert approved 'person-centered' approach to care. The system provides better comfort for children knowing their beds are individually their own. This also allows quicker efficiency for professionals to perform their daily routines

  • Disposable hair covers for health and medical professionals, used when operating in surgery. These are a necessary and compulsory health measure to ensure the risk of fall-out contamination is contained. These increase the safety and quality of healthcare whilst allowing patients to feel at ease for post-op recovery

CARE HOMES & HOSPITALS

PinClipart.com_tutoring-clipart_3441834.

The Karikari Foundation works to establish partnerships with authority-led hospitals as well as children's care homes (orphanages) for deliveries, within Ghana's Kumasi city.

Children's homes are largely run by local staff members and religious foundations, with some monetary support from government to cover food, accommodation and basic needs. However, a large amount of funding is dependent on cash and in-kind donations from private non-profits, like The Karikari Foundation.

Children of various ages (from 2 months to 11 years old) with varying disabilities, are cared for in a number of ways 24/7, from feeding to cleaning and interaction to entertainment by staff and volunteers.

"Around 5 million people in Ghana live with a disability, which is a fifth of the population. Approximately 100,000 Ghanaian children aged 6-14 have a disability and more than 16,000 of these children are out of school. Children with disabilities are often left at home, unable to go outside the house let alone make it to school. Many are shunned for their disability, marginalised and forgotten."

This is only one part of the full picture. Children brought up in 'orphanages' may be there for a number of reasons, contrary to popular beliefs about voluntary abandonment. Many circumstances are the result of sudden maternal mortality or illness, external abuse, financial constraints and the poverty trap. Donations made by you will assist the care of these children so that they may thrive within their living conditions and receive even better care by 2021.

There are a number of Hospitals in Kumasi city, run and supported by staff and volunteers, in addition to a number of community outreach programs which deliver health promotion to more rural or marginalised areas. Furthermore, several departments within these health institutions will benefit from the in-kind donations made by you, including the 'Maternity & Midwifery' Dept. and 'General Surgery' Theatres.
