1st December is World Aids Day every year and we know that there is still a stigma attached to the virus especially within the African and Western communities
As an African ambassador and health and wellbeing advocate, along with Miss Pride of Africa, we campaign to create more awareness about HIV, although there is no cure yet, it is preventable and manageable through levels of protection, accurate education and adequate health promotion.
For example, did you know that:
-HIV is a virus and AIDs is a deficiency syndrome that can develop from the virus, they are not the same thing although they are commonly linked.
-HIV is not passed through touching or sharing general items, but through infected fluids from sexual organs or infected medical equipment such as needles.
-HIV does not automatically transfer from a mother to a child during pregnancy and there are methods to reduce it down to 1% probability.
Let’s continue to speak about it, dont be afraid and spread the important message to take away the stigma today.
